MENS BODYBUILDING

what are the judges looking for?

Competitors will be judged on posing as well as physical appearance, in both, individual and comparison rounds. Both rounds will consist of quarter turns and mandatory poses. Depending on the division a competitor enters, there are several different posing categories. Below is a breakdown of each division with details regarding proper competition attire, presentation and mandatory posing.

Bodybuilding posing suit, plain in color, standard “V” shape covering at least 2/3 of your buttocks.
No props or gum are permitted on stage.
Lying on the floor is prohibited.
No bumping or shoving.
Anyone involved in any aggressive behaviour will be disqualified.
Competitor numbers to be worn on the left hand-side of your bottoms.

Round 1: Individual Round

During pre-judging each competitor will be called out to centre stage where they will stand feet flat, heels touching, and arms to their side and head facing front. The head judge will ask the competitor to perform their quarter turns first.

The quarter turns consist of facing front, quarter turn facing right, facing backstage and quarter turn facing left. The head judge will then ask the competitor to complete a series of mandatory poses. Athletes will be judged on muscularity, conditioning and symmetry, a display of overall shape and muscle balance, vascularity, separation and striation.

All poses must be performed properly and in a timely manner to avoid any penalties.

Mandatory Poses:

  • Front Lat Spread
  • Front Double Bicep
  • Side Chest
  • Rear Lat Spread
  • Rear Double Bicep
  • Side Tricep
  • Abdominal and Thigh
  • Most Muscular

Round 2: Comparisons Round

Once all competitors have completed their individual rounds, the head judge will call random competitor numbers of their choice to line up on centre stage where quarter turn comparisons as well as mandatory posing comparisons will be performed. Upon completion of comparison round the head judge could call on competitors to return to stage in order to ensure proper judging and placement.

Round 3: Individual Routine

All athletes will need to perform a 60 seconds routine. Routine must not go over the time limit. Routine can consist on any poses the athlete chooses. Music must be with us no later than one week before show.

Posing Music:

Posing music must be on a CD and must be the only music on that CD. Posing music may not contain any vulgar lyrics. Music will vulgar or racial lyrics and tone will be prohibited.

qualifying for the pro show

If you win your weight class, you can be awarded GBO PRO status. This will allow you to compete in the evening PRO Show.

The Bodybuilding PRO class is open to all weights. The winner of the PRO class will qualify for the Overalls where he will be up against the PRO Classic Bodybuilding winner and PRO Muscle winner.

The judges will decide who out of the 3 PRO winners will be awarded the PRO Overall title.The PRO Overall title will include a ticket to join Team GB at the GBO Atlas World Championships in USA.

MENS CLASSIC

what are the judges looking for?

The Classic Bodybuilding class can be split into two heights. Athletes will be measured on the day to determine which class they will be in.

It is important to not that Classic athletes will be marked on muscularity – this is important to remember that physiques must be presented in a classical manner showcasing symmetry, balance, condition with a tapered waist and excellent stage presence.

Classic athletes will also have their routines marked and it is important to note that routines should showcase the athletes in the best way showcasing their strengths in a classical manner.

what are the judges looking for?



The judges are looking for the mainstream look and a marketable physique.

A lean well conditioned physique is key while showcasing lean muscle.
In this category you will be wearing boardshorts.

    Open to competitors who are in there first year in competing.

what are the judges looking for?


The judges are looking for toned condition without showing very clear full abs definition and a flowing physique where your upper body matches with your lower body so you have no lagging body parts. You should still show excellent stage presence and a effortless presentation.

what are the judges looking for?

The Women’s Athletic Class (also known as Athletic Bikini in other federations) is perfect if you compete in Trained/Athletic Bikini classes and prefer the standard bikini posing rules.

This class is very much focussed on the competitors who have more muscle and a leaner condition physique.

The judges are looking for athletic condition with greater muscle quality compared to he Women's Beachbody look. You should still show excellent stage presence and a effortless presentation..

    O35s and Open Class.

what are the judges looking for?

The Diva Class is for the competitors who want to be creative with there posing without be restricted to showcase there personality on stage.

This is all about the marketable look while still showcasing a healthy, toned physique.

The judges are looking for exceptional stage presence, oozing with confidence and the x-factor that would wow the crowd.

  • Masters Diva O35s Category:
    35yrs and over.
    Diva Category:
    Open to all ages.
    The class will be split into heights Categories if necessary.

Female bikinis are to be 2 pieces bikini.

what are the judges looking for?

Judging Criteria is based on presentation and individuality. Competitor’s should display a firmness where the muscle bellies are slightly harder and rounder than seen in the Women’s Bikini Beach division (ie. larger legs/glutes development and a defined core).

SHAPE competitors will be judged during mandatory rounds in Symmetry, Muscularity, Conditioning and Stage Presentation. Assessing of the physique, judging criteria and rounds are the same as Women’s Beachbody.

Vertical proportions (legs to upper body length) are one of the key factors. Horizontal proportions (hips and waist to shoulder width) may favour women with a bit bigger hips, thighs and buttocks.

what are the judges looking for?


Competitors will be judged on showcasing a toned and healthy Figure look. The female Figure competitors will showcase obvious signs of training with healthy signs of muscle development without being excessively conditioned.

Competitors can request to be seen by the judges to ensure they have not strayed into the Figure Athletic criteria. Judges will be making overall condition, symmetry, posing, your routine and overall presentation. Hair, make-up, suit, jewellery and tan should all complement the competitor’s figure overall.

The class will be split into two heights.In the PRO Show we will only have one Figure Class and this will not be split into Toned or Athletic.

what are the judges looking for?

Competitors will be judged on symmetry, muscle development and tone, and overall stage presence and posing.

For Figure Athletic the judges will be looking for larger degree of muscularity with no extreme striations visible.

Judges will require the Figure Athletic competitors to have tighter condition compared to Figure Toned competitors.

Hair, make-up, suit, jewellery and tan should all complement the competitor’s figure overall.

In the PRO Show we will only have one Figure Class and this will not be split into Toned or Athletic.
